Hey Friends!! Happy Wednesday!! I hope you're having a great week so far!! Before I get into my new coat I have to say Congratulations to the Day 12 Winner of the 12 Days of Giveaway, Danielle Brown! Thank you all again for entering and I hope to this giveaway every year with more amazing prizes!!
All this year, I kept saying I want to make a trench coat before the year is over! Well, I finally made one, and I LOVE it!! I feel so ridiculous letting a project intimated me this long!
At first I couldn't decide on what pattern I wanted to use, but my sew sister Judith gifted me a gift card to Deer and Doe and I knew then which pattern I'd be making!! I loved the Luzene Coat when it was first released! It has bound buttonholes, pleated skirt, and the seams are finished with bias tape!
For fabric, I used this twill from fabric.com. I wanted a classic tan coat and this fabric was perfect!
Like I mentioned before, the seams are all finished with bias tape. This definitely makes the project longer, but its worth it when its all done! I DIY my bias tape using fat quarters! If you'd like to see the tutorial for that, let me know below!
Overall its a great trench coat pattern! The pattern is well written and the illustrations provided are great! This was the first time I've attempted bound buttonholes! I messed up on two that I'll just call "design elements"! LOL! Also, I didn't have all of the same buttons, but I did have 6 that we're the same, so I used those on the front. And lucky enough the other buttons matched, so I put those two on my sleeves.
I love everything about my coat especially wearing it with my other DIY makes like I did with my Laura Top!!
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope that if you have been intimated by a sewing project, I've inspired you to tackle it!! You still have time to make it this year!
