Happy Thursday!!! I wanted to get this post up earlier today, but complete forgot to put a few final touches on it, and before I knew it, it was noon!!! But better late than never right!! I hope you're getting excited and ready for the weekend!! I plan to sew at least two-three projects for the upcoming weeks!! I have some pretty stripe knits from LaFinch Fabrics that I can't wait to work with!
Today look is from two McCalls patterns. I cut these patterns out last month, but couldn't decide on fabric. I saw a stretch denim while getting some notions from Joann, and thought it'll be cute as a little denim dress.
I don't mix patterns that often, but it's definitely something I'm interested in doing more of! The top is McCalls 7162 and he reminds me of this new Vogue pattern. It was very easy to sew this top together. It has a lining, but I'll be honest, I'm more of a facing kinda girl! So thats what I did, I created a facing that goes from the neck to the armholes, and I love the way it turned out!
For the skirt, I used the basic pencil skirt of McCalls 7540. It came together easy as well! It didn't dawn on me until it was time to attach the two at the waistband that I need all these sides and darts to match up! Luckily everything lined up perfectly!!
If you're interested in mixing patterns here are 2 tips/things I did while doing this dress...
- Find patterns that will fit well together, and seams will be able to line with perfectly. I got luck with these two, but it could've easily went left. So take a moment (especially if you're new to mixing) and see where seams will line up and if it will work.
- Take notes of all changes/details made to sizes. For me I had to grade between 3 sizes. So at the waist, I made sure to note that and made the same adjustment for the waist of the skirt.
Have a great rest of this week, and I'll talk to you all in the next post!!
