Hey everybody! Happy Tuesday! I hope your week is off to a great start! I got hit with a cold over the weekend, but thank God I’m feeling a lot better now! I haven’t sewn in a couple days and honestly, I don’t miss it! I’m sure when I do get back inspired, I’ll sew 5-6 things non-stop and then hit a wall again! LOL!
Todays look is all about an easy pullover dress I made using McCalls 7800. This dress style is one of favorites. It’s super easy to make, and it can be made in many types of fabrics. I went with View B on the pattern but I used the bottom portion of View C sleeves.
For fabric, I wanted to dress it up a bit so I used a this Brocade from Measure Fabrics. This was my first time sewing with Brocade, and I’m really happy with the finished look.
For size, I cut the 16 around the best and did my normal merging to the 18 for the waist and 20 for the hips. I did have to go back in and take some fabric out because it was a lot of excess fabric around the waist and hip area for my liking.
Moving forward, if I have this problem, I think I’ll just add contour (fish eye) darts to the back of the dress. This will not only help eliminate some of the excess fabric, but also add a little shaping to the dress. I also took about 2.5” off of the hem.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. With our move only 3 weeks away now, things are starting to get a little busy here. I’ll continue to post twice a week, but I’ll also add a couple DIY OOTD looks in too. I noticed as I get dressed in the morning, I’m in mostly, if not all, me-made and I think it’d be cool to share those looks too.
Also I’ve been getting a lot of question lately about my sewing videos, like if I sew straight from the pattern without making adjustments. Obviously if you’ve been following me a while you know that I do, but for those that are new to my channel, I can see where the confusion can come from in my videos. So I said all that to say, I’m thinking it’s time to do sewing videos from the very beginning. Like from the BEGINNING! Cutting pattern, cutting/marking fabric, sewing and showing the finished look! This will take more time to record, edit and upload but I think it’s definitely an important part of the process that needs to be shared. I’m hoping to get one complete and uploaded before my move, but if not once I’m settled those are the new videos, along with the Sew In 30 videos you can expect on my channel!
Alright y’all, until next time…..
Blessings
