Hey everybody! I can't tell you all how excited I am to be joining in for the Royal Wedding Sew Along as a blogger. If you didn't know, this sew along is sponsored by McCalls and Simplicity! I think this is an awesome idea for a sew along and perfect timing because I'm sure many of you are getting ready attend spring/summer weddings soon!
Now I know, we're not going to THE Royal Wedding, LOL! But when I started to research inspiration and fabric, I decided to look at the last royal wedding and see the styles/colors the guest wore.
You can see there was lots of color, knee/mid length dress, and accessories! So have fun with your dress, let the creativity flow, and make it you own!
Over the next couple weeks, I'll be posting the steps, tips/common adjustments, and a sew with me video for Butterick 5850. I love this pattern! It features a mock wrap, gathered or semi-fitted skirt, and a side zipper. With the right fabric, this dress will be perfect for a beautiful formal event, or a nice casual dress for church. Speaking of fabrics, here are some options.
Butterick 5850 recommends lightweight woven fabrics:
The above pics are more special occasion/formal wear fabrics. They are Taffeta, Shantung, a Mirror Satin and Crepe Back Satin. I think I'm leaning towards doing my dress in a solid, but don't be afraid of making yours in a print/floral.
Below are some similar styles for the pattern. The red is the modeled from the pattern and I love it in red. The others are in more casual fabrics that will make this dress great for other places like work, or brunch.
I've created a Pinterest board with all of the fabrics, styles, as well as accessories that I'm thinking I might add along with my dress.
