Hey everybody! Happy Monday!! I'm really excited to get this week started because I've decided to start a series that will outline how to start your own sewing blog. I know I have a lot of beginner sewers that follow me, and some of you may wonder should you or shouldn't you start blogging. I'm hoping over these next 5 days, the information I give you will answer your questions and empower you to start!!!
So you'll be sure to come back the rest of the week, here's the topics for the rest of the series:
- Monday: Do I need a blog? Isn't social media enough?
- Tuesday: How to create my blog? What should I invest in?
- Wednesday: What are the MUST haves for my site?
- Thursday: What should I blog about?
- Friday: What to do before I make my site public?
I want to ease you into the information I have prepared because it can be very overwhelming if I unload everything on you at once. So I decided to start with a question you may have already asked yourself: Do I need a blog? Isn't social media enough?
I hear a lot of sewers say posting on social is enough, and they don't have time to blog. But think for a moment....how fast does your social media timelines move? It's so much being posted, your 1-2 post can easily be lost in the crowd or simply scrolled past. We don't want that to happen. But lets say it does, and you have nowhere else for your new/old followers to find you!
Something thats more important to think about is you don't own social media. Social platforms can be here today, and replaced with the next tomorrow!! What you do own is your blog and the content you post on it!! Your content will always be there, and your followers will be able to connect with you and get to know you better in your space than a fast moving timeline.
Now to be clear, there are some that have been able to grow a loyal following and share their creations with only social, but with every situation, you have an exception....they are the exception! You could be too, but just starting out in a sewing community thats growing daily with eager, creative beginners....do you want to risk it?
I get it, blogging is not easy. It takes time to build it, patience to see it grow, and consistency to keep your readers coming back but it's so rewarding and worth it in the end!!
I say, go for it!! If you're nervous, step outside your comfort zone and have some fun in 2017!! We may all sew, but our styles and voices are all different! Yours need to be heard too!! Now, I hope this post helped in making the first decision of creating your own space!! Make sure to come back tomorrow so we can continue the series with...How to create my blog? What should I invest in?
