Hey everybody! Happy Wednesday! Its been busy around these parts now that the children are out, but having my projects planned has definitely helped. I have been sewing away at this week list, and because I said I want to wear the white culottes with a couple other tops I'm making, I decided to make them first.
For my white culottes, I use Butterick 6178 View D. I totally overlooked this pattern when it first came out looking at the model. All the pleats on the pattern cover was a huge NO for me, plus the fabric! Thats where I should've looked at the other views and the pattern line drawings because fast forward to now and View D is my perfect everyday culotte!
The more I sew, the more I figure out the styles that I feel look best on me, and pleats around my hips, waist and thighs don't flatter me as well as other styles. Now don't get me wrong I love them, especially my McCalls 7726 makes, but I love these so much more. Less excess pulling, and no "poofy pooch" look!
I cut the size 22 and made no adjustments. For fabric, I used a white denim from The Fabric Store. The culottes have a waistband with hook and eye closure, center back zipper, and pockets!
The pockets are obviously a plus however I wish I would've used a nude fabric for the pockets. The white pocket fabric show through like a sore thumb but hey I take it as a lesson learned and will remember to do it in my next white pants.
The tie top is Simplicity 8655 and I absolutely LOVE it! Its a really easy top to sew up. I finished all my seams with the serger. The raw edges are all finished with a narrow hem, and the back neckline with a bias finish. I made my bias tape from the fabric. This is a great quick sew project and we all love those!
For size I cut the 16, and for fabric I made this using this Coral and White Rayon Challis from LaFinchFabrics. Its lightweight, breathable and perfect for summer.
I love this look! I'm really excited to make a couple more of these culottes. I think a denim would be great and maybe one or two in a linen!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Until next time.....
