Hey everybody! Happy Friday! Making undergarments has been something I've added to my must make list for months, but I always let the fear of "I have no idea what I'm doing" keep me from taking the leap! LOL! But then came the talented Madalynne and now with one project done, I'm ready to tackle more!
Before I get into her new FREE PDF The Barrett, I have to say how much of an inspiration Maddie is to me! I love reading her story, and seeing her growth as a business woman! Plus she's so sweet, motivating and I love her style!!
So now lets chat about the Barrett Bralette. Its a pull-on soft bra (no underwires) that has adjustable shoulder straps, a triangle opening at center front and an elastic band at the bottom. Thats right....pull on...so that means no closures!! Madalynne Intimate Kits come with everything you need to complete the project! I love this because I'm not familiar with picot elastic, or mesh, so the fact that everything is included in the kit is awesome! Plus, have you seen her packaging?! Its AMAZING!
One thing I did love about sewing this, is how quick it came together! Depending on your level of sewing, you can definitely get through this bralette in a couple hours. Its a 3 pieces pattern, and Maddie has a great step-by-step pictorial to walk you through the pattern. I love learning new things, so following along and seeing how she finished the raw edges so that they are between the fabric and lining was awesome!
For size, I cut the size XL and it fits perfect! I realized after the fact, I should've lengthened out my zigzag stitch so I'll be sure to do that next time. I think I would love to try this in double poly brush knit from LaFinch Fabrics.
I'm really proud of my first bralette! I can't wait to make another Barrett and I'd love to try my hands at another one of her PDF patterns, The Noelle!
