Hey everybody! It's Day 3 of The Sewing Blogger Series! I know I gave you a lot of information yesterday, but I'm hoping you're ready to move forward and take another step to creating your blog!! If you missed the first two posts of the series, you can read them here, and here!!
Todays topic is: What are the MUST haves for my site? Since you're getting together your design inspiration, this post is perfect so you'll make sure to add the important things to your site!! Let dig in!!
The first thing that MUST be on your site is an About Me page. You'll be surprise how many blogs do not have them. This is the opportunity to tell your readers all about you! What are you interests? When did you start sewing? Who taught you? What do you love to sew? What are your blogging intentions/goals? One of my goals for blogging is to get beginners to come outside of their comfort "sew" zone and sew new things with me. Don't miss this chance to connect with your readers, you'll be amazed the people that will come back to your blog just because they have something in common with you.
The next blog MUST have is a Contact page. If you want opportunities like collaborating with other sewers, getting questions, and private comments from you audience, working with fabric companies, make sure your contact page is easy to find on your site!!
You NEED a Lead Magnet on your site!! Whats a lead magnet you ask? A lead magnet is an irresistible bribe offering a specific chuck of value to your readers in exchange for their contact information. That sounds so bad, so allow me to sweeten it up. Create something your readers need that they eagerly sign up with their email address to get it!
My lead magnet is at the top of my blog. I created a list of online fabric stores that offer great customer service, amazing quality fabrics at awesome prices!! If you live far from a fabric store...you kinda want to see whats on that list right? What you DON'T want to do is create a pop up box that ONLY says "Sign up for my newsletter". You've seen them and chances are clicked the "x" to close the box! We don't want that! Create something that is a need, and irresistible to your readers!! Lead Magnet ideas...

I mean who wouldn't sign up just to see right?
You may be thinking now "why do I need a lead magnet?" Well that goes back to Day 1 when I said you don't OWN social media. If social crashed for a week, and you lost all your followers, guess what? It doesn't matter because you will be able to connect with your VIP readers (mailing list) through their emails, that you collected from your lead magnet, that you had on your BLOG!! You can also send them weekly inspiration, give them first looks, or previews of what you have coming up on the blog, and most importantly when you're ready to start selling tutorials, course, planners, etc. you start with your VIP readers.
And the last thing, maybe the most important is good visuals! I understand everybody budget is different, but thats no excuse. We all know smartphones can deliver high quality photos! Remember you're showcasing your talent. If you took time sewing your garment, take pride in the photos that you'll be posting!
If you say "I don't have anybody to take my photos", guess what neither do I, but I get it done! You may also say, "I don't know anything about editing photos". Guess what, neither did I, but I taught myself and what I do know are only the basics. I edit all of my photos for FREE using...
PicMonkey! This is a photo editing site that offers FREE, or paid subscriptions. You can take some random flower or tree photos, and start editing today!! Thats how I taught myself, and thats how I know you can too!
Wow! We are halfway through The Sewing Blogger Series, and I hope you're getting excited to start your blog! Tomorrow we're talking about: What should I blog about? That one is gonna be fun, so be sure to come back tomorrow for Day 4!!
