Hey everybody!! Wow! What a great week! We've covered so much information in The Sewing Blogger Series! Today is Day 5, the last day, and we're covering "What to do before I make my site public?" I have 6 things to share with you so lets dive right in!!
Before you're ready to take you site public, I recommend creating some buzz!! Get people excited about your blog! You can do this easily through sharing "launching soon" posts. Having a cover page on your blog with a countdown to when it'll be live. Sharing your logo, and a short description of what your blog will be about. Even better....
You can invite people to your blog site (that has a cover page on it) and say something like...Thanks for stopping by, we'll be LIVE in 2 days. In the mean time, you can download my FREE guide on The Best Interfacing to Use For EVERY Fabric Type! You my friend not only created great buzz for your blog, but you've started to build your email list through an awesome lead magnet!!!
The next thing to do before you make your site public is write! You need at least 4-5 blog posts already posted, so when you launch your site, you'll actually have something for your new audience to read! Make sure you have something on EVERY tab thats in your menu. On your "About Me" page, make sure your bio is up. If you have a Shop page, make sure you have something in there for sale. If you don't, just wait until you do, and then add the tab. No empty tabs on your blog!!!
The next thing is to make sure your site is mobile friendly!! People are on their phones much more than their desktop or laptops. Making sure your blog looks the same on tablet, and mobile just as it does on a desktop is great for keeping your site design consistent! Since we're talking about design...
Before you go public and/or while you're designing your site, make sure you make it easy for readers to leave comments on your posts! Nobody wants to sign in, verify that they are human just to say "great outfit". No! The easier it is to leave a comment, the more people will comment!!
The fifth thing I want you to do before launching your sewing blog, is to decide when you will be posting! Will you post 2 times a week? Whatever that number is, commit to it and stick with it! You're putting in a lot of time, and money to building your site. Be committed and stay consistent! Speaking of consistency...
In order to be consistent you MUST plan and stay ahead! Think about fashion designers, they work at least 2 season ahead right. There is no way they can wake up the day of a show and try to photograph a garment they made, edit the photos, find the perfect model, and send it down the runway. But you'll try to finish a dress, take photos, edit them, write a blog post, add links, and publish it! You WILL burn out...FAST! Plan ahead, to stay ahead!
And there you have it! The Sewing Blogger Series is complete!! Thank you all so much for joining me this week! I really hope the information was more than what you were expecting!! So now, its up to you! Say good-bye to fear, apply the content I shared and you'll do great! I wish you all the best on your sewing blogger journey!
