Hey everybody!! Happy Wednesday!! I hope you all had a great weekend!! I really enjoyed relaxing with my family! I wish I could say that I sewed the weekend away, but I really didn't get much done! I did get some new Simplicity patterns though!! Really excited to crank out a couple of those and make some videos for you all!
Today I'm sharing what I think is my first successful upcycle project!! I've been inspired by Candice for some time now, because she is so creative and the things she upcycles for her daughter are always adorable!! So I wanted to take a look through my own closet and see what I could find.
On my Anniversary trip to Hawaii, I packed this off the shoulder dress I made last year. Before packing it, I hadn't worn it since I made it! Terrible I know, because this fabric is amazing!! I participated in a Stash Swap within the group Pericrafters and received this beautiful fabric all the way from Canada!!! Although I didn't wear it again, I knew I wasn't going to get rid of it!!
Fast-forward to Hawaii, and the dress just didn't fit the same! I was fidgeting, constantly pulling it up at the bust, and it was dragging getting caught in my sandals every time I took a step!! Thats when I thought, I have to do something else with this dress! I'll be honest, it hung in my closet up until last week, when I bought some a couple New Look patterns, and 6467 got me excited!!
I carefully unpicked seams, and trimmed away at the dress, until the new dress pattern was cut out and ready to sew!! New Look 6467 view D took me 3 hours to make! I did omit the pockets (I know, I know blame it on my sore throat LOL). The dress came together really great, and the instructions were easy to follow!
For sizing, I always find New Look patterns to be a little off for me, but the cut the 18 for the bust and waist, and for the hip I graded over to the 22. I like the fit of the dress, but I do wish i had a little more fabric to add maybe 2'' to the hem.
I plan to make View C from this pattern soon. You all know I love a split sleeve! Hope you're enjoying your day, and I'll talk to you in our next Sew With Me video Friday!!
