Hey everybody!! Happy Tuesday!! Hope your week is going great! Now I enjoyed my time away, but I'm so happy to be back sewing!! I picked up some new sewing tools, so I've been cutting and sewing nonstop! Before I left for Hawaii, I did a little online pattern and fabric shopping! The idea of coming home to new stuff was like a no brainer!! LOL!! I took advantage of a Vogue pattern sale, and grabbed a couple of their new releases!
I love ordering McCalls patterns online now! I don't have to wonder if they'll have my size pattern, it's crazy fast shipping, and because of the shipping cost, I only buy the ones I really want and love, instead of getting everything I like! In my order was Vogue 9251! Out of all the new Vogue patterns (and they have some showstoppers) this one is perfect for me, and my style!
It sewed up really great, and the directions are easy to follow! I did a couple things different from the directions for this pattern. For the sleeve and hem, since they are curved it says to stitch 1/4" around with your basting stitch, and then fold that in and hem your 5/8". Instead of the 1/4", I simply serged my ends and folded up the 5/8". The serge caused the fabric to gather in enough around the curve to get a nice finished hem.
This pattern also called for seam binding to be used for the inside ties of this dress. I didn't have any on hand so instead of cutting 2 of the ties, I cut 4 and used 2 for the inside. The dress calls for 5/8yd. lining. Thats for the pockets. So if you have enough fabric like I did, and it's lightweight fabric, using the same fabric for the pockets will work great!
For fabric, I used this beautiful challis from LaFinch Fabrics! Its lightweight, and so flowy!! Perfect for warm weather!! Overall, Vogue 9251 is great wrap dress pattern and I recommend confident beginners giving it a try!!
Have a great weekend, be safe, and I'll talk to you all in the next post!!
