Happy New Year!!! I'm so excited about 2018! New goals, blessings, opportunities. I just can't wait to see what all this year has in store!! I have so much to share but before I get into my sewing goals and plans for the year, lets talk about my new friends!!
One of the things thats basically been nagging me since I started blogging, is the fact that I sew weekly for me and absolutely nothing for my daughter!! I love seeing mommy and me looks! One of my favorite makers that nail it every time is Nikki of BeauteJaDore! Her mommy and me looks have and continue to inspire me to want to create more for my daughter!
So with all of that being said, during Christmas time, I decided this year, I will create more for her! I went online to Amazon and started looking for toddler dressforms. I didn't want anything expense just something to showcase her little projects. After a couple hours of searching, reading reviews, I decided on this one! Its made of foam so its pinnable, the height can be adjusted, and the assembly is crazy simple, like 5 minutes tops! These dressforms do catch lint and loose threads from your makes, so have a lint brush or tape close by if you're thinking of purchasing one!
I said this was during Christmas time right, so yeah, I treated myself to a matching one! Again, I didn't want anything crazy expense, just something to show more of my makes, because this year, I want to TRY and sew mini collections. Another maker that I absolutely love and gives me constant inspiration is Emily of Emily Hallman Designs. I love the way she plans, and creates collections filled with clothes that fits into her everyday wardrobe. Plus I want to branch out and start new things (more on that soon), so sewing multiples projects at once is what I'm looking to begin doing!
This is the dress form I bought for myself! Its foam as well, and the height is adjustable. Its sturdy and will serve the purpose of showcasing my looks. Did I need another dressform....probably not, but hey it was Christmas, and the price was right! Oh yeah, I get a lot of questions about my first dress form (floral fabric) but never shared how I got it!
Before moving from California, to South Carolina, I stopped my our favorite dry cleaners to say good-bye and to thank him for being so awesome. He was the sweetest old man, and actually called me by name whenever I came in. But anyway, we were stationed there for 4 years, and every time I went in, I noticed a dress form in the corner with a tie around it. So when I stopped in to say good-bye, I asked him about it, and if he would sale it to me. I was prepared to negotiate but when he said $20, I said "I'll take it"!! LOL! So thats the story of how I got my first dress form. She has stained, missing parts, and not my size at all, but she's perfect!
Speaking of size, my new dress form is not my size either! LOL!! I got the closest size to my bust, and really didn't worry about the rest. Why? Because if I want a dress form that fits me perfectly, I'm gonna have to go to get it custom made. Since I'm not doing that today, I'm okay with pinning my projects to smaller forms and moving on to the next make!
Well, friends thats all for today! I think I've talked enough for the rest of the week! LOL! Can't wait to create and share this year! Thanks for stopping by, until next time...
