Happy Valentines Day y'all!!! I hope you’ve been having a great day! I’ve been recording and editing all week getting my sew along for McCalls 7906 ready to go, and I almost forgot to share this dress! While I was unpacking, I came across a couple fabrics in my stash that I thought would be great for a cute Valentines dress! One was a pretty fuchsia viscose (working with that next) and this red crepe I bought from Fabric. com a while a go! I didn’t know if I’d have time to finish it for today, but I did and here we are!
I used Simplicity 8834 to make this dress. I was drawn to it the pattern because…..I’m obsessed with anything that ties! Straps, dresses, tops, I love them all!! For my dress, I went with View B on the pattern but View A length! I wanted something I could wear to church if I wanted to, so I went with the longer length.
For size, I went with the 16 for the bust, 18 for the waist and 20 for the hips. If you’re not sure how to merge lines on a pattern to fit your measurements, I have a video you can check out here! (its for a jumpsuit but the same rules apply). Because my fabric was really lightweight and transparent, I added a lining in it. I made the lining by tracing over the dress front and back pieces after I had them sewn. (don’t judge me LOL! I had to be resourceful and use packing paper! I did a rough trace and fine tuned it after!)
I would recommend this pattern to a maker that can install an invisible zipper, create the front ties (its not difficult but you do have to be accurate with starting and stoping at the marking) and can add an option lining depending on your fabric! I didn’t want to say “I recommend this for an intermediate sewer” because it A LOT of amazing beginners-advanced beginners that could sew this dress up beautiful. So if you can do the steps I mentioned, you’ll be able to nail this dress!
I paired my dress with my red sandals, and stood in my new favorite place! LOL! One thing I want to make a real effort with this year is doing more styling to my makes. I love accessories (sunglasses, belts, bags, hats, jewelry) but I struggle with buying because its SOOOOO much to choose from! I guess I just have to start buying one thing I really love and build from there. Let me know below if shopping for accessories is easy or frustrating for you? If its easy, drop some tips! LOL Ya girl be struggling! LOL!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Until next time….
