Hey everybody! I hope you’re having a great week! My mom is back in Georgia now, so I’m slowly getting back into my routine of sewing and recording! Which brings me to this dress. A dress that I actually sewed three weeks ago and I’m just now getting around to sharing it! I know that’s horrible but when life gets busy…….well it just gets busy LOL!!! I’m really excited to share my thoughts on this McCalls 7920 dress, so let’s get into it!
First I’ll say that I LOVE this dress! After I took pictures in it, I wore it the rest of the day. It’s so comfy and cute. The fabric I used is so pretty and lightweight. I just love it and I really hope to revisit it soon to make another in View B length. This dress took me about 5 hours to sew up (including the pattern/fabric cutting). I was able to sit and sew non stop on this because my mom was visiting. I’m sure it would’ve took longer if she wasn’t here to do everything I really don’t want to do. You know like cooking, cleaning, making sure the children don’t get candy for dinner, that kind of stuff LOL! Here’s my review…..
Pattern Used: This is McCalls 7920. I made View A on this pattern. I really wanted View B but I didn’t have enough fabric, so the shorter length won!
Pattern Description: Button-front dresses are semi-fitted through bust with facings and body darts and length, skirt and pocket variations. A: Topstitched pockets, self fabric belt. B: Side seam pockets. (description is from McCalls website)
Pattern Sewing Level: This pattern level is Easy. I have to agree, it is an easy pattern and if you’re a beginner that’s ready to tackle buttonholes, you can totally make this!
What size did you cut?: I cut the 16 for the bust and merge to the 18 pattern line for the waist and hips.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the instructions were easy to follow. I didn’t run into any problems with the directions or the illustrations.
What did you like or dislike about the pattern? No dislikes about it! I really love the variations on this dress and I know I’ll revisit it for View B and View D. I love View D a lot and I’m thinking of making that one in a mid-heavy weight fabric near Fall time. Really like that it has pockets too!
Did you make any pattern alterations: No, I did not make any alterations other than merging the sizes. I did make the mistake of not checking my button placement before making my buttonholes, so I had to add a snap at the waist seam to keep it from gaping open! That was the perfect fix!
Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I used amazing Rayon from The Fabric Store online! You all know this is one of my favorites fabric stores! They have the most beautiful and unique fabrics!
Did you record a sew along for this pattern? I did not! Sorry y’all, but I do have a sew along for McCalls 7922 that I will be uploading to me Youtube channel this Friday! You know I love a twist front dress!!
Would you sew it again? Yes! I need two more. One in a solid and maybe stripes!
Would you recommend it to others? Yes! Its a great summer dress pattern!
Thank you so much for stopping by the blog! Until next time…
