Hey everybody! Happy Friday! Who’s ready for the weekend?! (meeeee lol) I have a couple of cool things planned for the children so I’m excited to get them out the house for some fun! But before I get into weekend mode, lets chat about this wrap dress!
I’ll probably say it every time I make a wrap dress, but I think they are so flattering! I love the way they look on me and also how I feel when I’m wearing one! It’s really no surprise to me that even though I have a ton of wrap dress patterns, I still buy them! I just can’t help it! One always has a small detail the others don’t! This dress was made using Butterick 6554. I made View B on this pattern and I may revisit it again for View A.
For size, I cut the 16 and made no adjustments to the pattern. After making and wearing it, I think I could’ve shorten the bodice by maybe a 1/2” or so. I felt it was a little long but nothing I can’t live with. I’ll just make that correction on my next make from this pattern. Another thing I noticed was the back hem was a little higher than the sides. Now that could’ve been me and my backside causing that rise, but again it’s something I will look closer at and adjust if need be in my next make.
I used this Silky Crinkle Rayon from Joann for my fabric and I love it! This was my second time using this fabric from Joann and I just love the drape and texture on this fabric. I originally thought it was a crepe but it a Rayon with a crinkle texture. I like it a lot!
One of my favorite things on this dress are the sleeves! I love the raglan-flutter style sleeve. I think it’s very feminine and adds a nice touch with the flounce on the hem. Now this dress comes together really easy BUT the flounce is very time consuming and if I’m honest just a pain! LOL! That narrow hem is what nightmares of made of! That part alone with staystitching it, stitching 1/2” to mark the hem, trimming it, pressings and stitching took me a solid hour! Maybe more, I started praying halfway through because I wanted to trash it, so I lost track of time! LOL! If you have a narrow hem foot, this would be the project to use it for!
Lastly, I did add a pin at the top. I will go back and add a snap to keep the wrap closed. It wasn’t too low or revealing but for peace of mind, I want a snap. Overall I love this dress! I can totally see myself making this again (even with that dreadful flounce)! I think in the right fabric this could be a great wedding guest dress!
Until next time…
