Hey everybody!! We are on a roll with The Sewing Blogger Series! I really hope you're learning and enjoying all the content!! The last three days we have covered a lot, and today we're talking about "What should I blog about". So lets get right into it!!
Since we already know your blog will be about sewing, you have to dig deeper and get specific. This is where you find out exactly what it is about sewing you love! Do you sew children clothes? If so, do you sew for both boys and girls, or just girls? Do you use patterns, or self-draft them? Do you sew for yourself? If so, whats your style? Once you narrow it down, and get really specific you'll know exactly what to blog about!
For me, I love to sew for myself using commercial patterns. My favorite things to sew are dresses and skirts. So 9 times out of 10 when you come to my blog, you will see me in a cute dress that I made from a pattern. I do occasionally sew for my daughter but majority of the time, it's me!
You could have a tips/technique blog where you blog about the issues most sewers may encounter, and how to fix them. An alterations blog would be AMAZING!! From there you could do paid online courses teaching more in-depth alteration classes!!! What about a informational blog where you provide valuable content for specific types of fabrics like Ankara (since it's popular I'll use it as an example). You could tell people the best places to purchase authentic Ankara fabrics from, how to treat them, what you made this week from your Ankara print. That would be valuable to MANY sewers right now.
Maybe you have a love of vintage clothing, or you enjoy sewing inspiration that you see on the run-ways. The possibilities for your blog are endless! Don't think you have to mimic another blogger way of doing things. Let yours be unique.
You may want to blog about different topics. If this is you, don't listen to anybody that says you can't because I'm here to tell you that you can. You can blog about as many things as you want, BUT make sure they compliment each other. My topics are: Sewing, Scripture Share, and Everyday Life (posts about my family, or my weight loss journey).
The more specific you get about your blog, the more focus you will become. The more focus you become, the more consistent you will be! Now lets talk about consistency a bit.
The ONLY thing that will set YOU apart from the hundreds of sewing blogs is consistency!! Because lets face it, everybody is good these days right! So then it comes down to how consistent will you be with blogging? When I first started blogging, I posted 3 times a week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday you could come to my blog and see a new post. I set myself apart NOT because I'm an expert seamstress, and know all the tips, and answers. No! It's because I was consistent with sewing, blogging, and recording. You don't have to blog 3 times a week, but whatever number you decide on, be consistent!
Alright everybody we are down to one more day left in our Sewing Blogger Series!! I hope you have been researching, and taking notes because now I want to hear what you plan to blog about below in the comments! I'm so excited to hear your ideas!! Be sure to come back tomorrow to finish up The Sewing Blogger series where were talking about "What to do before I make my site public?"
