table top cutting mat

Hi friends. I recently purchased a new mat for my cutting table and I’m really enjoying it. I have a butcher block counter top as my cutting table and my husband stained a mahogany brown. While I love the brown, when filming videos, I started to feel like it may be a tab bit dark of a background.

I tried a few things like buying a yard of white vinyl from Joanns (I did this twice) and used that for videos. It worked and gave me the white background that I like but I couldn’t keep it clean. It wasn’t noticeable at first but I started to see it turning brown just from constantly touching it and cleaning never got it back white white. So I started to research a table top for it.

After doing some googling, I came to this website: My Binding. I didn’t need it to fit my entire table, just enough to be in the background when filming so I decided to go with this mat. It’s a 2’x4’ Unprinted Cutting Mat. This mat is not self healing so I do not use my rotary cutters directly on it. I treat it as a table top and place a self healing cutting mat on top.

They do have self healing mat options but honestly I was trying to test it out first before spending a lot of money on something I wasn’t sure about. When it arrived, it came saran wrapped in a roll. After taking the wrap off, I let it lay flat for a day with books on the ends to flattened it out.

Overall I’m really happy with my pick. I purchased it back in December 2023. It’s very durable, easy to wipe clean and does what I needed it to do for videos. I really like that I can either use the mat for recording or remove it and have the brown in the background. I notice some fabrics show better on both so I like to have both options for videos.

Well, thats all for today friends. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time,

Blessings,
