Black and Yellow Collection : Look 1 : McCalls 7531

Hey Friends! Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! I spent it mostly relaxing, enjoying my family and putting the final touches on my collection! If you want to know more about why I decided to do a collection, you can read about it here, where I wrote about my sewing inspiration and goals for this year. I have to tell you, this was so much fun to do! It completed changed the way I thought about creating and made me love sewing even more! 

I always create a single garment at a time. When I see a new pattern, or inspiration on social, I make it and then move on to the next project. This process allowed me to think of more pieces that would work well in my closet, everyday life and coordinate together! I was able to narrowed it down to 4 pieces. A dress, a top, a jacket, and a bottom. Today I'm sharing my first piece, the dress. 

McCalls 7531 (other pattern option: McCalls 6886) was my pattern of choice. I can never have too many pull over dresses! I wear them around the house, to church, shopping.....basically everywhere! Plus I knew I needed to add some easy projects into my collection so I wouldn't overwhelm myself (tip from Emily). For size, I cut the L for the bust, graded to the XL around the waist, and XXL for the hips. This pattern is a Learn To Sew for Fun pattern from McCalls so its very easy to sew, and great for beginners. It will most likely be a TNT (Tried and True) pattern in your stash! I love the fit, and ease of this dress, and the fabric makes me love it even more.

I used this Double Brushed Mustard Anji Floral Knit (other fabric options: here) from LaFinch Fabrics. I love this fabric! It has great drape, stretch and it feels amazing! I finished off the look with my OTK boots from Target, and DIY Trench Coat.
