perfect summer dress: my pattern | me2040

Hi friends! Today I am so excited to share that I have a new pattern!!! I am so excited for this dress! It’s great for Spring and Summer and can easily transition into Fall with a turtleneck and cardigan! This pattern makes the third pattern in my Know Me collection. You can see them all here on Simplicity. With this dress, my focus was making a cute dress for warmer months that we learn a technique with and hack. Let’s get into the details….

the details

This pattern is a strappy dress with high back in long or midi length has close fit bodice, front slit at princess seam, A-line skirt, waist seams, back waist darts and side seam invisible zipper. View B has criss-cross back straps.

It was important for me to add the two strap options. I also asked for the bodice to be higher around the back so if you have a full bust, you’d be comfortable wearing a bra. It’s really a cool experience communicating with the tech/illustration team at Simplicity. Not only are they great, they welcome all modifications and changes so we create the designs we want and love.

I mentioned before, I wanted us to learn a new technique with this dress so I snuck in a side seam invisible zipper with pockets!! I know this is something that can be intimating so I thought it would be great to add in this dress. If you need help or want a visual while sewing it, I filmed a video for it below.

What I like about this dress is that it is a great base dress pattern. You can hack the bodice in so many ways. I’m talking sweetheart neckline, changing the straps and even removing the bodice and adding a waistband or bias strip to the waist and have a cute skirt! I actually did that and I love it!

I plan to make several more versions of this dress. Like I said, it’s a great one for warmer months and even going into Fall! Stay tuned for ways I plan to hack and really have fun with this design! Until next time,

Blessings,
