i’m a pattern designer | know me patterns

Hi everyone! I am here with some exciting news!!!! I’m a pattern designer!!!! Just saying that, not only puts a huge smile on my face but also makes me pause to think of how incredibly grateful to God I am for this opportunity. When I first started sewing, the thought of having my own patterns was always something I thought would be amazing but I didn’t think it would happen for me.

I’m self taught, I don’t sketch very well or drape. I don’t draft patterns by hand nor do I understand the complexities of drafting them in a software. I also didn’t see self taught designers besides Mimi G on the Big 4 commercial patterns. So like I said, I didn’t really see myself having this opportunity but here we are! My patterns are not only in craft stores nationwide, they are also on Simplicity.com! To God be the Glory!!

When I was first asked about joining Know Me (founded my Mimi G) I was hesitant. I had major imposter syndrome, and questioned who would buy my designs? I have a very casual, everyday, busy mom on the go type of style and my style has been called boring before so all of those thought came rushing back. I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only person offered an opportunity and question if I could really do it. Let me be an example for you that YOU CAN DO IT. Trust God and go forth! Lets talk about my first pattern, Know Me ME2002!

When thinking about what I wanted my first style to be, I knew I wanted something that many people could see themselves making and easily adding to their wardrobe. I looked at new and trendy styles, and spent a lot of time on Pinterest getting inspired. I finally decided to go with a trouser style pant that you can make with denim for jeans and a nice top that you can length for a great dress!

I love the final look of my design. I love how versatile the pieces are and I think I know the direction I plan to go with for future patterns. My goal and focus when designing will be to create garments many people can wear and easily add to their closet. Pieces that are versatile, comfortable and casual. Hopefully when my time is up as a designer, I would have created patterns that will be great for a capsule wardrobe.

I am so excited for this journey and I thank you in advance for all of your support! I hope that you will stay tuned for my patterns and shop them when they go live on Simplicity. Until next time,

Blessings,
