Floral Wrap Dress: mccalls 7893

Happy Monday friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! Today I’m sharing with you my latest project! It’s one where the fabric basically picked the garment! Lol! You ever have a fabric do that? You just see the fabric and immediately know what you’re going to make with it! Yeah, that’s what happened here when I saw this fabric! I just love it! The colors are gorgeous and this lightweight knit is perfect for many garments like a great wrap dress! Let’s get into the details.

pattern + fabric

I used McCalls 7893 for this dress and made View B on the pattern. I was browsing the pattern drawers in my local craft store for a wrap dress pattern, because it was time to update the two I have in my stash. They’ve been well used so I just wanted a new one.

For fabric, I used this Dakota Floral Knit from Melanated Fabrics! Like I said, I just love this colors in this fabric! This fabric is low in stock but this dress would be fabulous in our Bamboo Knit Leopard and Zebra print and our Bamboo Knit Clay, Sapphire and Amethyst.

sizing + adjustments

For sizing, I cut the size 18 for this dress. One thing that I like about this pattern is that it’s available in both Misses and Women sizing. I fell between both pattern envelopes but decided on the larger one and cut the 18 making no adjustments to it.

This pattern has amazing tips and tricks in it and I recommend it to those new to sewing! One thing it noted was to add bias cut interfacing strips all along the shoulders, front and necklines, sleeve and dress hems! I normally stabilize the shoulders of knit garments but I found stabilizing the front of this dress was great when attaching the binding and for helping it to lie flat.

This dress came together really quickly. I did not record a sew along for it but I do have a similar wrap dress sew along on Youtube channel using McCalls 6884!
