Black & White Wrap Skirt: simplicity 8699

Hey everybody! Happy Wednesday! I hope you doing well and getting excited for 2021! For my final 2020 blog post, I’m sharing this Simplicity wrap skirt! I was inspired by the fabric to go with this project and so happy I did! I love the finished look of it! Let’s get into the details!

pattern + fabric

I used Simplicity 8699 for this skirt and made View C on the pattern! Like I said previously, the fabric inspired the “wrap skirt” project but I needed the right pattern! I remembered a post by Mimi G a while back of a gorgeous mini tweed wrap skirt she made so I did a little digging on her blog for the patten info! Luckily, I had it in my stash and started working on it!

For fabric, I used this Addison Plaid Black/White from Melanated Fabrics! I was a little hesitant because its a wool blend, mid-heavy weight fabric and thought about using our Buffalo Check Black/White instead but I’m glad I stayed the course because the bigger plaids look amazing and I love it!

I found the buttons on my first visit to Fine Fabrics in Atlanta! It was so much fabric LOL, all I could focus on was notions and even that was overwhelming LOL!

sizing + adjustments

For size, I cut the 18 for the waist and 22 for the hips. I did make a few adjustments and those were adding 3 inches to the length of the skirt. I also used the wrong side of the fabric! To me the right side just screams coat to me but the wrong side puts other project ideas in my mind, like a coat OR skirt lol! The biggest change was adding a lining to the skirt. I did that because I used the wrong side and I just felt a lining was best to protect pile that on the right side of it.

I paired the skirt with my favorite knee high boots (option) and mock turtleneck from Target!
