Black and White Gingham High-Low Dress: Simplicity 8132

Hey everybody! Happy Thursday! I legit thought today was Friday when I woke up LOL, but its all good now! I got my morning walk in, read my devotion, cleaned the house, started laundry, took photos for the blog, all before 11:30! Today is gonna be great! So let’s continue with my “transition a summer make to fall with a white button up shirt” theme with todays look!

Gingham was having a huge moment this year, and I jumped on the bandwagon! I made this dress around July-August I believe but just like Tuesday post, it got lost in my pile of projects and patterns! I was inspired to make this dress from Charissa Myers, an amazing self-taught maker that sells beautiful skirts, dresses and other garments in her online shop. She added tent dresses to her shop during the summer modifying Simplicity 8132 and I just had to have one!

I made View B from this pattern and made no adjustment to the fit of it! This is a really quick and easy dress to sew up! The one thing I did do differently was attaching the bias tape. I sewed the right side the bias tape to the wrong side of the dress. Then I folded it over to the right side of the dress, and topstitched it in place. I did it that way so I could get a clean topstitch on the right side.

My gingham fabric is from Hobby Lobby! I bought enough fabric for this dress and then went back for more because I loved it so much! LOL! I used that fabric to make a classic button up shirt!

I really like this dress with my white button up! I can also see me wearing it with a black turtleneck too! Maybe that should be my next random theme! LOL! I paired the look with my Black Patent Oxford Shoes from Target, and my Black Mules from Old Navy because I really would wear this dress with both!
